Beyonce’s Four Curly Hair Commandments

Beyoncé’s hair has changed more often than her outfits. Each one of her curly hairstyles is super flattering and enhances her look whether as her stage persona, Sasha Fierce; a beautylicious mommy to Blue Ivy; or as true pop royalty, Queen Bey. Beyoncé is a naturally curly girl, and has taught us a lot about our curls. Behold, Queen Bey’s four curly hair commandments:

1. Thou Shall Embrace Thy Curls
Beyoncé is a walking ambassador for curly hair. She has fiercely rocked possibly every curly hairstyle known to woman, from small tight coils, to afros, spirals, and loose waves. Beyoncé inspires us mere mortal curly girls to embrace our texture by showing that each and every style is beautiful in its own way. At the same time, variety is the spice of life! If you have really tight coils, try sleeping in large braids to wake up with waves. If your curls are looser, try Jonathan Torch’s skip curl styling technique to create beautiful ringlets. Whatever you do, Beyoncé shows us that curls are beautiful and should be embraced!

2. Thou Shall be Gentle on Thy Curls
We have already established that Beyoncé likes to switch up her curly hairstyles. In order for her hair to stay soft, glossy and bouncy throughout all her curl transformations, she gives her hair the royal treatment. Beyoncé learned good hair keeping techniques from her mom, who owned a hair salon when she was growing up. According to Kim Kimble, Beyoncé’s hairstylist, Beyoncé insists on using a gentle shampoo, and regularly indulges in deep conditioning treatments. A great deep conditioning treatment to try is the Pure Silk Protein Deep Conditioning Treatment from Curly Hair Solutions. It gives your hair a healthy dose of silk protein, leaving it soft and shiny and making your hair colour look rich and vibrant for a longer period of time.

3. Thou Shall Remember Longer Isn’t Always Better
Last year, Beyoncé shocked her fans with a short pixie cut. It’s a brave move to chop off so much of your hair and Beyoncé flaunted her new look with confidence, which made it look even better! Often times, it seems that the media portrays long hair as being the ultimate in beauty, but Beyoncé proved that short hair can be just as beautiful and still have a lot of flexibility to style it how you want.

4. Thou Shall Stay Away from Fans

Let’s face it. Sometimes, naturally curly hair can be a pain. Like when you’re singing for a crowd of a gazillion people and your hair gets caught in the fan that’s supposed to be making you look cool! Beyoncé’s final curly hair commandment is to stay away from fans, and basically anything that may ruin your curls. While getting your hair caught in a fan is less likely to occur for non-pop stars, curly girls often put their purse straps over their curls, and then tug their hair away from the strap, damaging their ends. This is a big no-no as it produces the same effect as the fan – you never want your hair pulled on. Thankfully we don’t need a security guard to help us get loose!
