How Your New Year’s Resolution Effects Your Hair

It’s almost time for the New Year curlies! And we all know what that means, time to make those New Year’s resolutions. Many people may no longer be fans of making New Year’s resolutions simply because it’s disheartening to make goals and not see them come to fruition. But instead of making resolutions we suggest setting intentions for the New Year. No pressure but here’s are some healthy intentions you can keep in mind for yourself and your curls to start off the New Year:

Drink more water:
 Yes we know you’ve heard it before, and you’ll probably hear it from us again: healthy luscious curls are a challenge to maintain without drinking enough water. The growth of your curls is largely dictated by what beverages you’re consuming, so although soda and juice may have been your go-to beverages this year, it’s probably time for a healthier alternative if you want longer healthier curls.

Eat healthy: And no we do not mean go on a diet. Eating healthy is commonly associated with weight-loss, which we all know to be the most popular resolution, and the one that is always the hardest to achieve. Despite this, eating healthy has an array of benefits other than just weight loss, and hair is a huge benefactor. Consuming more fruits and vegetables allows you to take in more vitamins and nutrients known to aid in hair growth and reduces the risk of hair thinning and hair loss. So even if you’re not a fan of the gym, or even dieting in general, eating healthier makes you feel great and is better for you. Although this resolution may be tedious to some, it is definitely the most rewarding.

Drink less alcohol: Before you give up on this post, hear me out. We never said to stop drinking alcohol, we’re just suggesting that less is more. The nasty hangover look you wake up with after a night of drinking is only a reflection on the toll that alcohol takes on your body. The same way alcohol dehydrates your body, it dehydrates your hair as well. A glass of wine here and there never hurt anyone, but regular alcohol binges should be left in the past.

Reduce Stress:
 Stress has a major role to play in hair growth, maybe even more than the amount of water you drink. High levels of stress are a major factor in hair thinning and hair loss. Even though stress is a part of our lives, there is an array of healthy ways to deal with stress. Exercise and eating healthy are great ways to reduce long-term stress, and as we said before, also great ways to grow your hair long and healthy! Another great way to reduce stress and grow your hair is giving yourself a scalp massage. A scalp massage stimulates blood flow on the scalp, and lubricates the scalp with your hair’s natural oils, which promotes hair growth. Not only do scalp massages reduce stress and grow your hair, it’s a great way to relax.

You may have sworn off making resolutions altogether, but they’re really just goals you set for yourself to become a better you! Don’t worry about not achieving a goal by a certain time. Even if you don’t begin working towards it months or even years later, recognizing how it would benefit you is just the first step! Lifestyle changes happen over time, as do the benefits.
