Humidity kills anyone’s fun summer buzz! Sorry, but not sorry: this is a subject that no curl can escape from thinking about and addressing. Literally.

Humidity is an essential part of our atmosphere, and it’s necessary for all forms of life on our precious and delicate planet. Moisture balance plays a huge part in our lives as well, especially for people with curly hair. The lack of, or excess of humidity (depending on where you live) determines whether you have an easy-peasy styling experience, or a frustrating one. As we all know, curly hair is very different from straight hair – it’s actually a bit magical. Curls are very porous, which means curly hair has a greater ability to absorb and retain moisture – a much greater ability than straight hair. So, when its humid, you can literally watch curly hair expand the minute it is exposed to humidity (this is the magic part). Moisture in the air or humidity causes curls to expand very quickly. Some of us curly heads rejoice in humidity, because the moisture in the air helps to define the S-formation of a curl. The rest of us curly and kinky heads despise humidity and avoid it like a chatty uber driver (no five-star rating for you, Humidity!)
